Final result. Ready for rod color coat. My repairs finish with way less bulk and are much stronger than the typical thread wraps and epoxy technique.
Butt Cap Damage
Moisture penetration into where the butt-cap is fitted onto the rod-butt. In this case cardboard was used as the arbor. An arbor is a spacer made of graphite or polyurethane intended to fit over the rod butt to fill the space between the rods butt outer diameter and the butt cap inside diameter for a tight and secure fit.

Here I have tapered the rod ends and fitted a ferrule to rejoin the two rod parts. I use strands of carbon fiber for the overlay wraps.
